Masked Lighthouse Card using High Tide Stamp Set from Stampin' Up!
As soon as I saw the High Tide stamp set, I knew it would have to make its way to my craft room. There are loads of different elements in it, and by layering them up together you can create all sorts of scenes, from simple and serene, to highly detailed and involved. Because it's a photopolymer set, it's really easy to position everything. I particularly love the way the lighthouse itself is a two-step image; you can totally change the look of it by stamping it tone-on-tone, or with colours that compliment each other, or (of course) as I've done here, creating a lifelike (is that the right word?) lighthouse. I did this one using Real Red, and it reminds me of the Lighthouse at Orford Ness, which is a National Trust nature reserve a little way up the coast from here.
Here's the full card:
This is the third project from my May Mostly Cards class, and although it's quite a lot more detailed than the previous ones I've shared, it's much easier than it looks. The sentiment, sea and shingle were stamped using sticky notes to mask off those parts of the images that needed to appear "in front of" other parts. The sea, for example, goes right behind the lighthouse and shoreline, but it's stamped after them, with the lighthouse and shingle being masked off first. The frame around the sentiment was created by simply popping a rectangular sticky note over the sentment to protect it, and then stamping the sea right across it.
When I run my classes, I always supply instruction sheets, which usually show a close-up of the project in question, with pointers as to how to achieve certain results. For this one, I had to revert to a step-by-step format, as it's so important that everything is stamped in the right order. I'm delighted to confirm, though, that even those at my class who would consider themselves complete beginners successfuly created beautiful versions of this card. The looks on their faces were an absolute picture - I love seeing people when they realise they are capable of so much more than they thought!
